ORCV Melbourne to Geelong (M2G)

Give that man a cigar!

SYC's #5 Mark (Outer Southerly) is where we're at with the Div2 racing fleet, minus Alien and Young Ones, I'm reliably informed, who decided to add a bit to their course and follow Div1 for a while.

Many thanks to Steb Fisher for the use of his images.

FleetM2G10-0778

Visible here, from LtoR, are The Bookmaker, Peregrine, The Love Boat and Matrix.

G154M2G10-0780

Peregrine get around at the front of this lot.

FleetM2G10-IV055

First to snuff on the second row was The Love Boat.

Sm3500M2G10-IV059

Did not hurt them, however and they got through to go on and get the Div2 gun for the day.

Sm3500M2G10-IV064

All pretty much to plan...

S54M2G10-IV068

Matrix not quite as snappy and boat speed was down, accordingly.

S54M2G10-IV071

Halyard please!!!

FleetM2G10-0782

Alibi on the left and Team Beyond Outrageous go barreling in. Nice Flag in the background there... At first I thought it might be Gienah, but she does not have two slabs in the main.

Sm178M2G10-0787

Team BO - have kite - will use it! It is the hero shot as the Bag has big shoulders and they deserve a cigar for something!

Sm178M2G10-0789

Alibi gone the snuff.

Sm178M2G10-0791

And in she comes...

Sm178M2G10-0803

Kite almost in and pole being squared away, now.

Sm178M2G10-0823

Alibi goes after Matrix.

S37M2G10-0808

Team BO go after Alibi.

S37M2G10-0812

Still busy, busy aboard Team BO, with Lord Warden Trophy winners for the second time, INSX just appearing...

S37M2G10-0822

Pole yet to be squared away...

B120M2G10-0809

Meanwhile, Phil Bedlington had put The Cappers in a good spot.

B120M2G10-0811

They had a bit to do, too...

B120M2G10-0814

Of this image, Steb simply said, "note Phil's cigar". OK. Cannot deny a man his pleasures in this life... There's one member of the Brass who would not doubt be very envious, too.

We'll see if we can get a close-up arranged...

Also note Remedy in the background and it is INSX just in behind them.

B120M2G10-0815

Note INSX with a rare little foul-up - a wrapped heady - in behind them, here. Hhmmmmm. That'll be no cigars.

Sm5985M2G10-0816

No. Not the greatest... And it is on film...

Sm5985M2G10-0817

Soon to be the windward drop, with a touch of Mexican.

S14M2G10-0781

So this is Gienah and that flag in the background is still a problem... Rogue Trader retired, so it could be them.

S14M2G10-IV051

Virtually all done on the retrieval...

S14M2G10-IV052

Next image of the sequence.

S14M2G10-IV053

And the one after the one before it.

S14M2G10-IV054

Boat and CBD - always going to get a run...

H6336M2G10-0783

I swear we were just talking about the Bag being the right way around, only a day or so ago... AND this one is a SYMMETRICAL Bag to boot!

(Trainspotters can go and check on 97, right HERE and then Calm's Acer, HERE.)

H6336M2G10-0785

H6336M2G10-0795

Cover thy position.

H6336M2G10-0796

Especially when you have one below you as well.

H6336M2G10-0797

Sandwiched between team BO and Alibi.

H6336M2G10-0798

Did we snuff the Bag too early?

H6336M2G10-0799

OK. Aspect ratio changing now.

H6336M2G10-0800

Let's finish this piece with The Bookmaker, right on the mark and Team BO keen to take the mark out!

Lots of cigars handed out there and I am sure there will be more... Soon, too.

ORCV Melbourne to Geelong (M2G)

Hi Ho, Hi Ho.

It's off to the South we go.

We're now heading South after rounding R2 and depending on your division, that either meant a trip to SYC's #5 Mark (Outer Southerly) or into the delights of the Carrum Bight. Of course, if you were Alien or Young Ones, you needed to get that information correct to avoid the disappointment of having to go back over ground you had already covered! Doh.

Many thanks to Steb Fisher for the use of his images.

It was BBB's first outing and chance to put up some of her rags in anger...

Is that Neisha trimming???

You know, the absolute best thing to come out of all of this has been everyone's involvement with the site. One of our original readers was Ian Lindsay from Team BO, who just sent in, "Just to show you that I'm still paying attention, the Ninety Seven kite trimmer is Bernadine (Bernie) Mynott!"

Well thank you mate and all the best.

ORCV Melbourne to Geelong (M2G)

The hand of God.

He of the Pointy End, Chris Furey has supplied us with some of his images from onboard The Love Boat durning the M2G. Cheers on that.

2010_M2G_0735FingersOfGodLR

For artsy fartsy value alone it was always going to be hero pic. 0735 on Saturday morning on the ay to the start line...

The fingers of the hand of God.

2010_M2G_ChasingDownColtsLR

"Chasing down the Colts." That seems like a good idea, to me.

2010_M2G_PYTLR

"The delightful Daniel and Trish with their PYT. They bought their Young 88 ex ‘Final Fling’ through me a few months back and the seller was Tony Manning, who has just bought Eddie Wall Smith’s 11M One Design, Ultimate Tune, which was also through me", Chris said.

Ed. Hey Tony, now there's a CVD!!!!

"Eddie, SYC’s longest serving member, was a strong supporter of the ORCV back when he had the Farr 43’ ‘Rimfire’ and later, the Frers 43’, Challenge III. He has finally decided to hang up his sea boots at the grand age of 84! We often say to the seven year old kids who come through the SYC C-Fleet junior training program, that sailing is one of the few sports you can pursue competitively for just about your entire life and then we mention Eddie and Lou, as prime examples."

Ed. QED.

Off over towards Port Arlington.

2010_M2G_MatrixLeadsDiv2PtRichardsLR

Would have been the hero pic if it had not been for the artsy fartsy number. Chris liked it too! Then again, he has reason too, "I particularly like the Matrix shot with the Channel Marker #1 showing in the slot. At that time they were #1 in Div2 which seemed appropriate but we reeled them in again a short while later and held them off to the finish."

2010_M2G_Matrix1LR

There's a wave.

2010_M2G_Matrix4lr

Here's some clouds for you.

2010_M2G_Matrix6LR

And clearly they were playing with Matrix a lot, on the way to Geelong.

BTW, Chris says, "Anyone who wants full sized originals (mostly 2 Meg +) can call me 0410 55 1977."

The morning after the night before (1)

Quiet time on the quay, Sunday morning...

We'll find something to talk about, soon...

Let's go for a yacht.

Here are some more of the newly created Cruising Division of the M2G and thank you to the competitors, because it was a great event. We're still at the rounding of R2 and here are some more of Steb Fisher's pics from the waterborne component of the 2010 M2G.

San Miguel from RMYS.

S216M2G10-0635

Clipping along.

S216M2G10-0637

Looking like a Div0 boat off in the distance...

Sm616M2G10-0588

Magic goes around just after Pretty Woman. Both vessels are no stranger to ORCV events - thank you.

Sm616M2G10-0592

Cruising with company - Cadence, Magic one of the newer breed and then Mirage out on the right.

Sm616M2G10-0594

And Ocean Safari wants a piece of that, too.

Sm1337M2G10-0512

Well look here. Independent Endeavour had arrived, as well.

Sm1337M2G10-0515

Up to the mark they glide in this sequence. Because of her mass, things do take a little while, but always under an auspice of grace...

Sm1337M2G10-0516

Time to go over to the other board...

Sm1337M2G10-0517

Race leader, Calm, over to the right...

Sm1337M2G10-0518

Nouannie on her port side now.

Massive headsail to go.

Sm1337M2G10-0523

Sm1337M2G10-0524

And going off out of the tack now...

Sm1337M2G10-0527

That'll be the mark.

Sm1337M2G10-0528

Mirage coming in to the mark, as well.

Sm1337M2G10-0530

Oh. OK. A gang of cruising with company. Pretty Woman in there, too.

Sm1337M2G10-0531

Time to go back on the other board, perhaps.

ORCV Melbourne to Geelong (M2G)

The cruiser known as Graf Spee.

First we had a bit about her in It pays to advertise and then the Dambusters got us on the WWII thing... Now, at last, are the pics of the new Hanse 375 known as Graf Spee. The boat belongs to Paul and Deanne Koelmeyer at RBYC, of whom our Poster Girl, Patricia Laverty says, "Lovely people. They're new to racing and so we're starting with something great!" Excellent stuff. Well done. You've earned yourself $50 for the ORCV plug...

We're still at the rounding of R2 and here are some more of Steb Fisher's pics from the waterborne component of the 2010 M2G.

B375M2G10-0604

Yes. That does look great.

B375M2G10-0605

Howdy. How are we all?

Very civilised.

B375M2G10-0615

Maybe got the lazarette packed with a bit too much gear?

FleetM2G10-0628

G3902M2G10-0567

Geelong entrants got into the programme and seem to be very keen for next year's M2G, as well.

G3963M2G10-0542

Not a lot of breeze, but still a bow wave.

G3963M2G10-0544
