Brass Monkey.

You know... As in freeze the balls of a....

The Brass have lobbed in with an early interpretation of the weather for the impending Melbourne to Geelong run. We have 20 vessels in Cruising and 43 boats in Racing for the Bay's best fun bash. Who will win the coveted Lord Warden Trophy? One thing you can be sure of, is that if you are at Geelong for presentations, the said trophy (for the lowest pointscore throughout the entire ORCV Winter Series) will be awarded. There will also be all the usual ones for the M2G event itself.

ColdWind

The Brass have said, "The early weather indications are starting to firm up, but don’t forget that the system could still slow down or speed up, so we will keep you posted. The main feature is that we have a front moving through Melbourne on Thursday night/Friday morning, followed by a dominant high pressure system. The satellite map shows a pool of cold air behind the front, which will be with us on Saturday morning. This pool of cold air could give us some early morning hail storms, but it is unlikely. Looking at the wind, we will start in 20 to 25 knots from the Sou'west, which will quickly moderate to 15 to 20 and then even further to 10 to 15 knots, as the day goes on. Accompanying the moderation will be a move towards a more Westerly direction."

BoMMSLP

PWCatalina36

"You will see that the two models do not agree in the PredictWind Weather Route, above. It is for a Catalina 36 and uses the more direct course the Cruising Division will take. So tacticians, you will again have a quandary as to whether you go over to the Werribee side of the course for less wind and waves or punch out into the stronger winds, before then tacking for Geelong", The Brass elaborated.

Now The Brass also indicated that they would look at further updates on the weather as we get closer to the event, "...but one thing for sure is to remember to pack your warmest winter wollies for the start of the journey. Sailing home on Sunday is looking glorious, with Westerly winds making for both a speedy and comfortable trip home."

Ed - you did not hear it from me, but keep a weather eye out for an update to the SIs, as well..............

Nice work team!

We have 18 vessels in Cruising and 42 boats in Racing for the Bay's best fun bash - Melbourne to Geelong. Who will win the coveted Lord Warden Trophy? One thing you can be sure of, is that if you are at Geelong for presentations, this trophy for the lowest pointscore throughout the entire ORCV Winter Series will be awarded. Now, The Brass have deemed that there will be no late fees for getting your entry in for Geelong. So that has to be great news if you've been contemplating it, but cannot decide. You can, now. Simple. Join in for either either Racing or Cruising (they run on different courses), the latter of which seems to be ultra-popular, with boats like Ocean Safari, Noeleen III and Dionysos returning once more. Perhaps it is because you make it a family weekend? Who knows, but you probably already do...

In the vicinity of R2 on the morning of Saturday, September 10 is all you need to work on. Go HERE for all your Geelong information.

Generous Brass!

FREE is always good news and so as of today, Wednesday August 31 (Tanya Stanford's birthday BTW), The Brass have deemed that there will be no late fees for getting your entry in for Geelong. So whilst not entirely free, it is a BARGAIN. Come along for the fun in either the Racing Division (currently 40 boats) or choose to finish before the racers and be in the bar when they arrive by going in Cruising Division (17 vessels presently). Simply stock the boat up, get it out of the pen where it may have been hiding all Winter and head on down to Geelong on September 10. You'll be glad you did!

Beware!

The closing date for your FREE entry into the Geelong event comes up on August 31 at noon (only for those that have been in the entire Winter Series). It's the same day as Tanya Stanford's birthday, so if you're phoning the office for one reason or another, you now have some good intel to use... Remember, it is FREE, if you've done the Winter Series, but you do have to complete some more information for the office, so go HERE to sort that out.

Now then, all three Divisions will remain open for entry into the Bay's favourite new bash, so you can get aboard the bus at any time, but if you can get the crew orgainised earlier, then it will be less of a dent in the wallet and more into the beer fund - that's gotta be a good thing! As we are aiming to get more than last year's 77 vessels, that means more people you know and more drinks to be had, so by association, more cash to buy more drinks!!! QED.

As for the pic, well, it comes from the very first run to Geelong, in 2009 and it was a boat that went on to become our very first Seamanship Poster Crew. You can see the original piece HERE and another from the code flag series, HERE.

Guess Who?

In The Event Known As Geelong, we saw that Tresor is our first Melbourne to Geelong entrant in Cruising without Spinnakers and that we also have nine in Cruising with Kites, presently. In 2010, over 75 vessels made their way down to Geelong for the event and a thing called a party. It is FREE, if you've done the Winter Series, but you do have to complete some more information for the office, so go HERE to sort that out.

Now, we have just learned that the BBB, also know as Gusto, is coming out to play in the Racing Division. We have not seen her since King Island! There are 17 vessels entered in this division, as of 22/8/11, and so you won't have to guess who'll Div1 will have to follow, unless Cougar II comes out to try and make it three TPs in row from three starts! Calm will not be there to make the hatrick for themselves, so it's game on there.

Accordingly, it is not so much guess who, as welcome back. I mean trying to disguise the Skiff on Steroids is like trying to hide an airport by putting hoarding all the way around it........ People are eventually going to spot the planes going in and out!

In the 2011 M2KI, Gusto arrived in a bath of gold, as the sun set over King Island.
