It's YOUR Money!

M2GOnlineEntry

No. I'm not a tall Scottish git with a beard, an Australian wife and a fantastic desire to use the "F" word. Or for that matter, doing State Bank Bank of Victoria ads in the 70's.

However. I am here to show you that if you did pay up for the whole of the MWS, then the new Race Seven, Melbourne to Geelong (M2G) is already included in your MWS fees. And that is YOUR money! So now you may as well do Race Seven of the MWS, as it is only Cat 4 and you don't even have to get the boat down to and back from the Peninsula. Cool.

What's even easier than that, is that you only have to check the radio button on the website, when you confirm your entry and stipulate that you've paid by cheque (see the "cheque via post" is marked in the screen dump above) and it's all automatic - you're in and off to Geelong on September 12.

Of course, if you've been paying as you go or want to get the boat out of the pen for the first time in a long while, then doing M2G is going to be cheaper than M2F in all ways. Perhaps with the exception of the bar tab, but that is exclusively your domain to look after and we'll never tell you how you should spend your money.

You can find the M2G NOR and SIs HERE.

Go Figure!

Waiting_waiting_waiting

Yep. They're lolling around at H.I waiting to get a race in and dogs are being swept off chains in Victoria. Here in the middle of our country, we have both sun and wind. I know! Let's move the race up here. I'll get the BBQ ready.

BoM says rain for the weekend with the "breeze" backing off, but then it is also meant to blow again on Monday and Tuesday. Face Mecca now and pray we get Race Five and Six in on Sunday...

Look Alive for Race Five.

MWS Race Five, that was postponed from August 16, has now been abondoned; - at least in it's passage race format. Instead, it will be now to be run on Sunday August 30 2009, in conjunction with MWS Race Six.

The Sailing Committee will be running two races back to back on the 30th. If conditions suit, they will run one old Olympic (triangle) course and one windward/leeward course. Should this go to plan, the MWS will then be completed and the Reserve Day will not be required. Bingo.

Accordingly, lunch will be required and you all need to face due North and pray to Huey that you get a pleasant 10 to 15knots or something.

And take your cameras...

Heads Up regarding Race Seven - the M2G!

You asked for it and here it is - news of the "new" Race Seven of the 2009 MWS, Melbourne to Geelong.

Goldie
Look Alive! "Get your black bits off the gold bits"...Eh Kate?
CrossTacking
Will it be sunny, as in this shot, breezy as above, awful or everything (as per some races)? Who can tell, but that just adds to it all now doesn't it...

Right then. The short description of the new Race Seven is a start at 08:30hrs off R2 on September 12, 2009 (and yes I have put it in the phone this time Brownie!). It will be a course of some 60nm around Port Phillip, should the breeze be suitable and the finish will be off RGYC at approximately 16:30hrs. If the breeze is caught AWOL, then the finish will be before Point Henry, so the tight bit of the Channel will not cause any concerns. Click HERE to get the M2G Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions.

Now unless you've been asleep for the last 100 years, you'll know all about how Geelong does the post-race thing and they have gone for it yet again. Here are the bullet points for all you Rip Van Winkels; -

  1. Your boat will be tucked in nice and comfy for the evening in its own berth, with RGYC Marina staff escorting you in, once your sails are down, so all you have do is think about chilaxing! Cool.
  2. You can go straight off to the numerous, 24-hour, hot showers and bathrooms.
  3. You'll be fed and watered. RGYC are pretty familar by now with what yachties want when it comes to a great night out after a hard race. There will be a selection of great value food for you from when you arrive, through to dinner. The Member's Bar will be open for you to enjoy drinks at members' prices, which is good news for people like Doc, Smokie, Smithy et al.
  4. You'll be entertained. For those that want to party into the night, we will have a great band playing.
  5. You'll be cured. Yep. There will be a full breakfast buffet for the sore heads to ensure they can cope with heading home. No doubt, for the truly in-form athletes amongst the clan, there will be some take-aways available as well.

Best thing is that now that it's all inside Port Phillip (and so remains as a Cat 4 event), anyone can sign on to do this last race. Importantly, that means boats like 'Cackerjack', the Beneteau 36.7 from RBYC can have another go at the whole shebang, just six months after their inaugural effort at Geelong Week. So go get 'em organised Wally. You've been advised... And I am sure there are even more crews out there waiting to have another soiree too. So go tell all your club mates about this mid-year adventure, especially if you missed out on going North this year.

Race7Course
All rightey then. This is one of the three proposed courses for Race Seven of the 2009 MWS, weather depending - Just remember that this is PRELIMINARY and not to be used on race day please... Go get your M2G SI's HERE.
AudaciousMStephens

In case you missed it, we found out the name of the very focused Mastman aboard 'INSX'. He's Stephen 'Jamboy' Hill.

Steak Knives!!!

But that's not all you get. There's more! Yes and it isn't your complimentary set of Demtel steak knives either. It's a bunch more of these cool pictures from Races Three and Four. Yahoo baby or what?

AddictionRounding AnotherChallengeClockwork
Inglis 37 'Addiction' going for the bag carefully in that breeze, which is a wise thing really... A pair of 38's. In this case 'Another Challenge' ahead of 'Clockwork'.
AudaciousChainsaw
'Audacious' and 'Sierra Chainsaw' set about determining who's going to get to the bottom mark first...
INSXX_Hoist
Just a gem of a pic showing the concentration on 'INSX's mastman's face - awesome. You know who you are - so if you want to go public, let me know your name and it shall be so... I now understand this to be one Stephen 'Jamboy' Hill. Love your work pal. This should keep you in the Skipper's good books for a while at least.
SilkWave
This pic is so good I made it the hero pic for this story - enough said! BTW this pic is the Radford 30 'Silk' coming into the top mark...
Schuss__Challenge
The Sydney 38 'Challenge' goes round first with the Beneteau 45 'Schuss' right in there.
LeftRight
"Hey there. I'll go left and you go right then eh?" Not a good time to go too square in that breeze... I don't think anyone misses the IOR roll...
Kingurra JAMHUcommittee
One hand for you and one for the boat aboard 'Kingurra'. Always a thank you to the Committee as you cross - we don't get to see them in pics often, so here they are on the RYCV's 'Thorsen'. In case you cannot read the graphic, it is 'Just a Minor Hick Up' that's about to finish.
ChallengeBelleWicked
Thanks Lou. You're an inspiration to us all. Cheers. ('Belle' left and 'Wicked' right in behind The Doyen's Sydney 38 'Challenge')

Good pictures Scott. Great work. So if you get a couple of gems from onboard whilst out racing, send them to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. - we can always use them.
