ORCV Melbourne Winter Series (MWS)

Sweet Sixteen.

We had 10 and Legs Eleven for M2V, so it seemed only appropriate that we did Sweet Sixteen for the MWS, as not everyone can make the time to escape the Winter drudgery for sunny shores. Showing her pretty face on July 4, will be Goldfinger - the sixteenth entrant. Thank you Peter and Kate.

She'll join two other 50's already set to be out there, as well as favourite 30's, like Godzilla and Nouannie. Representing the 40's will be the winners of the new McConaghy carbon fibre wheel, Chikara Outlaw, along with XLR8 and Schuss. There are two Sydney 38s already, so there's a race in itself, whilst to date, the Beneteau 30-somethings have Cloud IX, Fade 2 Grey and Rogue Trader amongst their brethren.

Now if you would like to see whom of your battle hardened opposition is coming out to play in the 2010 MWS, click HERE.

Of course, having looked at the who's in file, you'll no doubt be dead keen to get amongst it all. You can enter the entire series, which automatically includes the infamous M2G (but not your drinking shoes) or just individual races of the series. The NOR and online entry for the 2010 MWS are right HERE.

Also, you can review the M2G HERE and remember that Cruising Divisions will be offered for this event.

ORCV Melbourne Winter Series (MWS)

Great Stuff.

There are fifteen entries already for the 2010 Melbourne Winter Series, which is just great. Actually, it's fantastic, this far out. So a big thank you to everyone of those boats, skippers and crew.

Note however, that July 4 and the only authorised practice flare shoot in the area, are but a moment away (22 days from Sat 12/06/10).

Now if you want to be a part of it all, or just individual races of the series, then you can get the MWS NOR right HERE. Similarly, if you want to investigate the much loved M2G race that completes the MWS, then please go HERE.

Now given that Bombora was our first entrant (spiel about that is HERE) and a bombora is a kind of wave, I could not help thinking that it is kind of poetic that we have a had a wave of entries, still with a few weeks to go. So, let's make it a flood! We have everything from 30 to 50 footers and a lot in between. If you want to see what you're like against the Bay's battle hardened opposition... Come on down! Greg Tobin from Bombora along with the other 14 skippers and crews are there and waiting. The fleet also includes the Doyen and Challenge, as well as our fabulous Love Boat, Nutcracker. You can see exactly who everyone is, HERE.

ORCV Melbourne Winter Series (MWS)

There's Always Someone...

... who is going to be first and so we salute Greg Tobin of Bombora from RYCV for being the first entrant in the 2010 Melbourne Winter Series. Thank you, very much.

The Melbourne Winter Series for 2010 is surely going to be even better than ever. You can enter the entire series, which includes the seventh race, the now infamous Melbourne to Geelong all in one hit, or you can enter specific days which suit your calendar. It's on every fortnight from July 4, with the M2G held on September 11.

This year, the ORCV will also be having a Cruising Category for the M2G, which will have a special course and two divisions - kites and no kites. If you're thinking of being part of this category, then you may also want to think about the passage race, which is Race Four of the MWS on August 15.

Of course, who could forget the annual flare shoot before the start of proceedings on July 4. It is the only approved and authorised occasion for the whole year, when you can legally practice firing your rocket flares. All in all, you had better get organised and be a part of this grand event, which has been a significant part of Melbourne's sailing calendar since 1971!!!

Also signing up on the very same day was Schuss. So thank you to Denis McConnell and crew from RBYC, as well.

Click HERE if you want to enter now for Winter's biggest and most fun event. It all happens from July 4!!!

So, if Michael Pisani is still sailing on Bombora, then below is a collection of images for you and your family. Cheers.

Melbourne to Geelong (M2G)

Smaller and really, really, really wet flag!

SmallWetFlag

Now just like an iceberg, over nine tenths of this little gem is below the water. And also like a really famous iceberg that 'Titanic' slammed into, this one had the potential to ruin your whole day. For 'Silk' it sure did and now we know why they retired. Bless them though for ploughing on to Geelong and the big bash. Cheers.

Thank you 'A Completely Different Source'. Good pic, I appreciate you sending it to me and trust you actually get that better camera you want, so you can take cleaner snaps.

Well done Wally Tench from 'Crackerjack', who started me on the whole 'Flag' thing. Look what you've started... Good job lad!

Big Flags!

SlinkyKiteLR

I had heard stories about a lot of big flags out on the course during the recent M2G when I finally made it out of the boardroom and start on my own micro-economic stimulus package for Geelong.

So. When this came across my screen from an unimpeechable and ultra-reliable source, I thought "Hmmmm. Nice 'Q'!" Alas, perhaps it actually should have been a 'V' or 'F'...

Thank you 'Source'. Good pic of 'Slinky Malinky' and I appreciate you sending it to me.
