Swinging to Osaka!

Friends, families and supporters gathered at HBYC on Friday evening to farewell the crews of Escapade and Turbulence who are off to Osaka next month.

On a perfect evening, the crowd swayed along to the music of the Melbourne Tramways Big Band and the hospitality of Hobbo’s.

The excitement is building among competitors and the comments on the night ranged from “we just want to get started to finalising the last of the preparations”.

Joey Gough, honorary member from Scotland and one half of the Escapade crew shortly Osaka bound will take some time out to address the  HBYC  Cruising Group with a talk about cruising around Norway and the Arctic circle on Tuesday 26th February at 7.30pm –All welcome.

Ready for anything.

Osaka Cup entrants were treated to some handy tips from Sailmaker Sam Haines at the UK Halsey loft in Sandringham last evening. From repairing a clew, blown out tapes on a spinnaker, slugs for your mainsail, retrieving broken battens from pockets and other general repairs, Sam demonstrated how repairs can be made quickly and efficiently whilst racing.

No doubt they will be re-thinking the contents of their sail repair kits this morning!

KGTMS Japanese FestivalHere, There and Everywhere!

A qualifier in Bass Straight, a presence at the Japanese Docklands festival and a feature article in the Herald Sun today.

Tony's partner , Shelley, updates us on the preparation for the big race.

"Tony Warren and Andrew Hibbert have been very busy in the short time since Andy committed to crewing KGTMS to Osaka. They completed their qualifier with a quick spin across the Bass Strait to just off Launceston and back two weeks ago while everyone else was swanning around in Geelong.

Last week but I was laid up in hospital after my ladder decided it wanted to leave the roof I was working on whilst helping Tony and last Tuesday was spent in recovery after having a plate put into my left wrist. They assured me that I won't set off any alarms at the International Airports I will be passing through in 9 & 1/2 weeks.

It is a good thing that Tony didn't stop looking for crew and settle for me. We would be in dire straits. I want to take this opportunity to thank our supporters for all the help thus far and for the help that has been promised. We are on schedule with our plans for the P*SS OFF TONY event and as soon as venue is confirmed we will be pushing forward with enthusiasm. Any volunteers on the day to help with the setup and preparation of food would be greatly appreciated. Call me for any questions on 0439933746. Go HERE to get your ticket.

Door prizes include a 2 for 1 voucher for Dinner at Blue Fig, 7 Shakespeare Grove, St Kilda, Annie Boutrieng has kindly donated a massage, voucher for a Haircut and style at Gado Hair, and a raffle for the Hutchwilco PFDs that were won by Kiss Goodbye at the 2011 Stanley race. .Any support or donations of prizes for the fundraiser are welcome.

As we are technically one very shorthanded (pardon the Pun) crew, Tony and Andrew would be extremely grateful for any able bodied assistance. Kiss Goodbye will be going up on the hardstand at SYC to have her bum scrubbed and anti-fouled and also to have the final survey and other requirements for the race and insurance".
