The 15:05 schedule has been completed and the boats still have 25 to 40 miles to go. We hope the wind will hold as the sun sets and we should see the first boat by 8pm. The boats that have retired so far Algy Rose, Blaise Pascal, Cartouche, Christine, Hush, Remedy and Smooth Operator.
What a difference a day makes for the weather for this week’s Apollo Bay race
The PWG and PWC models are now in agreement, so wind from the South West at the start clocking around to north and hopefully there won’t be too much time with no wind between the different wind directions The other two models have a different out look on the weather. So tacticians keep doing your homework
Weather Outlook for this weekend’s Apollo Bay Race
The weather map for the Apollo bay race has a nice big high pressure over Victoria for the weekend. On the plus side the forecast is for a sunny day with a top temperature of 17 degrees. The high looks strong so enough diesel for the way home will be required.
Looking at the Predictwind routing model this weekend’s race is going to be a slow and challenging race. You location to the north or south of the rhumbline is going to determine weather you win or loose so clouds and other visual effects will need to be monitered. So a light boat with an attentive crew and a clean bottom will win the day. We have four boats in contention for the Offshore trophy so it will be a hard fought race
As you can see from the summary for a Beneteau first 40 it is going to be a late finish
