Held every four years from 2006, this is Australia's longest Category One race and starts on the first Sunday in July. It was conceived as an idyllic way to escape the Southern Winter and often attracts a strong two-handed division of racers. The race always has a Humanitarian Aid component attached to it and there is a container with medical, school and apparel supplies that accompanies the fleet to Vila. Please see the Notice of Race on this website for the specific starting time.

Party of Five.

And you thought I was going to bang on about that show with Neve 'where is she now' Campbell and Matthew 'Lost' Fox. Well I'm not, even though I just have. Fantastically, its from the 90's, so not too far back. WooooooHooo!

PartyOf5

Seems there's a bit of residing in the "where are they now" file for some of them, unless voice over work for games counts? Yes I know there's six in the image, but finding an image with the young lad in it was a challenge...

For us, it's actually more like Party FOR Five, anyway. You see, Hobson's Bay Yacht Club has five of the eleven starters in the 2010 M2V race. Yep 45%! Well done and thanks, BTW. So it is no surprise then, that they had planned to hold a massive BBQ for their clubmates last Saturday night, despite the weather.

Our 'Party of Five' gather on their couch... (and a chair)

HBYC Commodore, David Judge explained, "On a cold and wet June night, HBYC acknowledged their skippers and crew that are making the big journey shortly, to sunny Vanuatu. A large crowd of members enjoyed hearing how the preparations were going and what were their plans for the race and just as importantly, afterwards. A great meal was put on by the fantastic volunteers in the kitchen, in place of the planned BBQ..."

2010_M2V_FeoreTurbo

Bill Feore was one of the skippers to detail their plans. Perhaps he had been inspired by Angus Fletcher, who'd been there four years ago.

ORCV Commodore, George Shaw, and Robyn Brooke represented the ORCV. "Geo was also the completely unbiased judge in the impromto quiz about Vanuatu", David added. All of this followed on from some news from M2V Race Director (and HBYC Member) Bob Tanner. George had this to say about the night, "Thank you for the invitation to the HBYC night, David. Very well organised! It was just a fantastic night put on by HBYC to support their five entrants. The Clubhouse was decorated with ORCV and Vanuatu regalia and also featured 'The Wandering Minstrels' band."

Each of the skippers was then presented with the HBYC Burgee by their Commodore, David Judge. David is an avid reader of the site, one of the very first fans and a regular go-to guy, for onboard intel and the like. Thank you, mate.

Leon Berry of Samskara, with a delighted David Judge. Their latest story is HERE. Glenys from Garisenda on the right. Glenys, I'm sorry, but they did not give me your Surname, so if you would send it in, then I'll add it. It's Glenys Jensen. Garisenda's latest story is HERE.

Bill Feore from Turbo, the 2008 M2L winner, collects his recognition award. See HERE for a small spiel about them. Eric Marsh off Slinky Malinky (they pop up in nearly every ORCV race), on the right. They have one crew spot left I gather, see HERE to go and secure it.

2010_M2V_FletcherBurgee

ORCV regular and former Commodore, Angus Fletcher from Tevake II, collects his burgee.

"Finally, Robyn Brooke provided information about the humanitarian aid and fundraising efforts associated with the race. Over $300 was raised on the night with more in the pipeline. The night continued with the unique sounds of Vanuatu and then HBYC member, Nick Dear and his band played their fantastic blend of blues", David concluded.

Robyn had this to say of it all, "A fantastic effort and what a wonderful night.  I really enjoyed the atmosphere, the band and the food. Thank you HBYC."

Four!

No. We have not become the Ocean Golf Club of Victoria.

It is actually the number of days until Jeremy Walton (© Steb Fisher pic above) marries Karen. A fact she was keen to ensure was far more important than the information contained below. We all hope it is a great day for you both and many happy returns too!

"Just 26 days to go now...... It all seems to have gone very quickly from the 299 days to go to M2V email that I first sent you", Jeremy tells us. To that we can only say - Yes indeedy!!!

B660NewGustoDownhill

"The PBO rigging arrived last week and the stick was put back in the new Gusto last Wednesday. Joel from All Yacht Spars is very pleased with how it all went. Brian and the delivery crew arrived in Qld last Friday to tune the boat and load up before heading back down to Melbourne. Paperwork all going okay with just about everything Dennis wants submitted - just a few vital things to do when the boat arrives back. So all looking on track for Gusto hitting the start line on the 4th."

Thank you for the update Jeremy and we are truly delighted that all looks to be on track. Jeremy was also kind enough to pass on other important deadlines, as of Tuesday 08/06/10:

V2M 48 Days
M2S 144 Days
COB 201 Days
M2H 202 Days

and the next M2V (in 2014) is 1489 Days to go...

Now that's forward thinking!

Commodore's Baton.

All good Commodore's get presented with a baton (Geoffrey Rush was keen in Pirates of the Caribbean), but on George's recent trip to the Cook Islands, he got presented with an even better opportunity than getting his own - to take part in the Queen's Baton Relay for the Commonwealth Games. Nice.

GeorgeAndBaton

George tells me that, "I went to Cook Is to be there for the arrival of the Vaka, which were the original Polynesian ocean going canoes. They had just completed a 4000nm voayge, but arrived on night I was leaving and anchored right offshore of my hotel room, to be able to "arrive" in daylight (Hmm - who's that like). I wondered if we have new entrants/members for the ORCV?"

Quite possibly George. We can all see these 'Vaka' in action HERE.

Need a lift.

We did. As in, we, the ORCV. You see the empty container had to first get to the warehouse and then once loaded, back the docks and ship, so it can get to the people of Vanuatu.

If you've ever had anything to do with freight forwarding, you'll know that this is a significant and very much appreciated donation arranged by Peter Ferrari from Extra Transport. So it is a big 'Thank you' going to the team at Extra Transport. Your logo will now always appear in the sponsor section below. Many thanks also to our friends at APC Logistics, who put this one together.

Now this is a really cool bit of kit. I soooooo want one of these. Don't think Holly would be that happy with it in the garage, however. Transfer a whole container or put it down and pick it back up without the need for an additional crane. This is what will be assisting us. Thank you team Extra Transport.

Now Peter also enjoys his boating. A lot. He has a Princess 65. They are like the Rolls Royce of diesel launches, which is why in the Northern Hemisphere, they refer to things like this as motor yachts. Take a look!!!!

MojitoTransom

She's capable of 42 knots, which means she must have some V12 Cats rated to around 1200shp each and swallow about 220litres, an hour, a side!!! Then again, if you have to ask...

Probably has three and half tonnes of juice on board, but you'll only need the juice of a few limes for the drinks. Just love her name, Peter. Cocktail hour aboard is when, by the way? Any dress code I need to be aware of?

Look forward to seeing her around Peter and may you enjoy it all immensely. We know the people of Vanuatu will very much enjoy the contents of the container you have arranged for Extra Transport to take to the ship.
