ORCV Melbourne to Geelong (M2G)

The Brass have lobbed in with an early interpretation of the weather for the impending Melbourne to Geelong run. We have 20 vessels in Cruising and 43 boats in Racing for the Bay's best fun bash. Who will win the coveted Lord Warden Trophy? One thing you can be sure of, is that if you are at Geelong for presentations, the said trophy (for the lowest pointscore throughout the entire ORCV Winter Series) will be awarded. There will also be all the usual ones for the M2G event itself.

The Brass have said, "The early weather indications are starting to firm up, but don’t forget that the system could still slow down or speed up, so we will keep you posted. The main feature is that we have a front moving through Melbourne on Thursday night/Friday morning, followed by a dominant high pressure system. The satellite map shows a pool of cold air behind the front, which will be with us on Saturday morning. This pool of cold air could give us some early morning hail storms, but it is unlikely. Looking at the wind, we will start in 20 to 25 knots from the Sou'west, which will quickly moderate to 15 to 20 and then even further to 10 to 15 knots, as the day goes on. Accompanying the moderation will be a move towards a more Westerly direction."

"You will see that the two models do not agree in the PredictWind Weather Route, above. It is for a Catalina 36 and uses the more direct course the Cruising Division will take. So tacticians, you will again have a quandary as to whether you go over to the Werribee side of the course for less wind and waves or punch out into the stronger winds, before then tacking for Geelong", The Brass elaborated.

Now The Brass also indicated that they would look at further updates on the weather as we get closer to the event, "...but one thing for sure is to remember to pack your warmest winter wollies for the start of the journey. Sailing home on Sunday is looking glorious, with Westerly winds making for both a speedy and comfortable trip home."

	Celebrating its 41st consecutive running - the Winter Series was first run in 1972 and is still the same format today! Be a part of the Bay's hottest racing at the coldest time of year or just pop out at the end, for the Bay's favourite bash - the event officially known just as Melbourne to Geelong, but you may have other names for it...
	In September, the Melbourne to Geelong event  finishes the Winter Series off and there will be presentations at RGYC for it. Of course, by the time Stanley comes around,  you just know Silly Season proper is upon you...
