ORCV Melbourne to Geelong (M2G)

No. Really. It IS the Dambusters.

Wow. It was and is, certainly a famous old pic and a bit of a fave, but I had no idea that Peter Jackson is redoing the tale of a certain Barnes Wallis (played by Sir Michael Redgrave in the 50s version). We lost a lot of men training for and carrying out this mission, so it is good to see it being remembered again.

I mean, here I was just putting a story together to an image of Steb's and then, bang! All this information comes to light. Steb had no idea I was going to choose that image or theme...

The image that got me thinking in Dambusters.

"Interesting that you chose the Dambusters. My cousin, who teaches engineering at Trinity College Cambridge, is the engineering advisor to Peter Jackson's remake of the Dambusters. Hugh wrote to me last night: B-day approaches, we're blowing the dam on Sept 26. Testing at 1/16 Barnes Wallis scale, then 1/12 scale, then 1/6 scale ... now we're at 1/2 scale."

The whole background is available HERE.

It's a veritable WWII feast here at the ORCV, what with Operation Chastise, #617 Squadron Bomber Command, Avro Lancasters, Rolls Royce Merlins, Dambusters, PBYs, Catalinas and of course, the new Graf Spee on the water. Pics of her, very soon BTW. Steb said, "I guess we'll see it all on film, though very tempting to go and see it live!" Ah, like YEAH!!!!

Now this really is majestic!

Yeah, yeah. It does involve water, engineering and yachts (Graf Spee and the one in the background of the second image) - so it qualifies... There.
