Category: 1+

Description:
First run in 1987, the Osaka Cup starts in the first weeks of April. Massive two-handed fleets marked the early races and the next event in 2013 is set to make a very global statement about short-handed events. The race is also a true test of complete seamanship as crews go through all manner of prevailing weather, from the Roaring Forties to the Horse Latitudes, the Doldrums, Tropics and Asiatic systems. Please see the Notice of Race on this website for the specific starting time.

The 2013 M2O has been announced and the first Expression of Interest has already been received.

Sister cities Melbourne, Australia and Osaka, Japan are proud to be offering this great event to celebrate 35 years since formally creating their relationship. The 2013 incarnation will be the eighth time this huge 5500nm two-handed race has been conducted since 1987.

The Melbourne host will be the Sandringham Yacht Club, whilst Osaka Hokko Yacht Club will be attending to all formalities in Japan. The Ocean Racing Club of Victoria will be administering the on-water activities of Australia's only Category Zero yacht race.

The Race Committee is keen to review all potential racing opportunities, including things like Class 40. The potential three week starting time window has been proposed to allow vessels of differing speeds to arrive in Osaka at a similar time.
