Heemskirk Consolidated
Melbourne to Hobart (M2HE/M2HW on 27/12/10)
Glorious Day for Racing - Saturday 04/12/10
So it was a peachy little day out there on Saturday. Wind was not really there in the morning and got to a 10-12 job later on in the piece. A glorious one indeed for getting in some preparation for things like the COB and the impending Heemskirk Consolidated Melbourne to Hobart pair and also the oldest ocean race in the land - M2L.
Following on from Glorious Pt. I and then Glorious Pt. II, herewith are some more of the Steb and John Show.
He's back from the Orient and returns in style, with a classic 'Steb'. This is Shogun!
Shall we start with the start then, eh? Lots of fun at the start of Div1. Clockwork already looking for real estate...
Couple of Beneteau's up to windward with the handbrake on.
Challenge heads down to the pin and Clockwork also contemplating their options...
Time to go and do it again, as the back of the RIB - the pin boat - means there's no room there...
Clockwork tries to get back in..
... but not going to get that.
Audacious and Executive Decision slug it out whilst the Beneteau's Ikon and Schüss have released the handbrake and now go for speed.
Clockwork gets very optimistic.
Pin boat goes full astern to get out of there.
Clockwork is out of it, but in behind, Challenge has found a gap!
Challenge emerges on Port.
Bit of Etchells racing will do that, you know. Mark Bulka's still driving I understand...
Time to get underway.
Ninety Seven also in there... Silk doing a Port thing too.
Challenge doing really well on the other board!
The Love Boat above Executive Decision. The former is preparing to make their assault on the Sovereign Series, with Greg Clinnick telling me - "We want to hold on to it!"
Denis in the white hat taught Will Fisher to sail a Sabot in 1995 and Alasdair who has come out of retirement to drive Cerberus.
No Officials. No Racing. Privateer with our friend Tony Dawson at the wheel.
They're good at getting the press and hell, they can race pretty damn well too!!! David and the gang from Audi Penfold Sport.
The gun, the gun, the gun - and it's for the new Happiest Crew on the Water - Gienah.
The team from Mrs O.
Challenge leads the fleet into the first rounding. Ikon and JAMHU2 in the mix, as well.
Hopefully the Doyen and Co will line up for the Boxing Day Dash again like last year.
Challenge in clear air on port off the line passing the leeward mark and clearly, ugly is fast! Go the speed wrinkles...
New square top main for Veloce. They're going to do the Don Chip down the East coast of Tassie this year. And yes. I am aware that you have to be over 40 to get that one..... Sorry. Ask someone older than you, if you don't qualify...
Dennis Livingston on station, Steb notes and gee that looks like that man Doug on the cabin top. Is it?.
And so for a change, we'll finish with the fleet stuff. First Musketeer, Floating with Dinosaurs, Bombora and Swordfish Trombone.
The two Radford 35 Sprints, Horizon Sprint and Silk, along with what looks to be an Adams10 at the back and not entirely sure who's at the front?
LtoR it's CougarII, The Runner, Shogun and The Finger
Steb's come up with a new one for Prodder Time - Jousting sticks? What are they asking?
Classic 'Steb' here and Shogun showing real intent...
On ya bike, son.
Challenge leads the fleet on the first run. Ikon, JAMHU2 and Cadibarra 8, I'd say... Looks like a Don Jones coach house.
Seems the drivers found the bottom mark OK...
Promise. We will.

Below is what is now known as the Red Wine Cup, for first in to Hobart via either coast.... In 2008 it went to the West and in 2009 it was the East. 2010????!! |
