Ocean Race: 152 nm

Race Start: 2300 AEDT, off Queenscliff on Friday, 30th October 2015

Event Category:  2

The ORCV's Melbourne to Stanley yacht race starts off Queenscliff and finishes at Stanley in Northwestern Tasmania. It is held each year on the Melbourne Cup long weekend.

Please also note, that this is a qualifying race for both of the Melbourne to Hobart races, the Rolex Sydney Hobart yacht race but not required for the Melbourne to Devonport race. However, some crews still choose to do Stanley as practice for Australia's oldest ocean race across Bass Strait- the Rudder Cup.

"Smithton Lions Club and Dockside Festival Committee secretary Sheryl Robson said she was pleased to be welcoming the crews back to Circular Head after a two-year break.“They [ORCV] made the decision to come back to Stanley,” Mrs Robson said. “It’s just a great atmosphere having all the boats here.
The festival is supported by TasPorts and Circular Head Council and will be a weekend-long event, starting at 6pm on Saturday and held in Greenham Tasmania’s cool stores, located at the wharf precinct in Stanley.
Food and drink stalls will be set up for locals to wander through while admiring the yachts.
Smithton Scouts will host a fishing competition for the littlies with prizes up for grabs, and Marine and Safety Tasmania (MAST) will showcase a flare display on Saturday night.
The excitement will continue late into the night with the likes of the Royal Australian Navy Band of Tasmania performing throughout the festival, while the Wynyard Concert Band will entertain on the Sunday.
The following morning, the Lions will put on a big breakfast for early risers and yacht crews, from 6am.
Once fed, patrons can browse the Makers’ Market before the festival wraps up in the afternoon."
