McConaghy Melbourne Offshore Championship (MMOC)

Rip in to it! We've got you covered.

The 2009 M2S (entries close 17/10/09) marks the start of the 2009/10 McConaghy Melbourne Offshore Championship and it is our first foray out into Bass Strait of new season. So given we are sticking our nose out into it for the first time in a while, here are some reminders, so that we are all set for the McConaghy Melbourne Offshore Championship and the Summer as a whole.

It's unlikely there'll be another SSSCs this year, so hopefully you've all squared that away. Similarly, MROCP and First-Aid are done for this year too. However. Have you thought about the Rip Tour?

Now you've probably heard us banging on about the Rip Tour at the AGM and recent SSSC. You may have been out the Heads a million times yourself, but has your crew? Are their families going to be happier if they see it for themselves and get to learn first-hand about the training and knowledge that goes behind this thing called ocean racing? More than likely. Please see the article about the Rip Tour on October 25, which also has some testimonials from previous participants that may shed some extra relevance on taking the whole gang down for the Rip Tour. Your crew and anyone else you think it may be relevant for will enjoy it. After all, we often have fisherman and beach walkers come along to get a different perspective on the whole thing.

Rip Tour

Bookings are solid, so you will want to move on this course. It is not expensive ($65.00), so click HERE and get your forms in. Remember, one form per passenger please...

PLBs

These are absolutely required as part of the new Cat2 rulings and will be essential as part of your safety checks and audits before M2S. Click HERE for the info on them. Remember to check the boat and liferaft's EPIRBS are 406 too!!! Anchor Marine have a some specials going at the moment, which are highlighted in the article.

First Aid Kits

I always pray you will not need to open them, but HERE are the ruling and documentation regarding first-aid kits.

All rightey then. There you have it. Not much time to get on top of any elements not attended to thus far and it will all be upon us very quickly indeed. Less than 12 weeks to Xmas a friend said to me yesterday...

AlfaJnr_CopaDelRey_helm

This could be you in a few months time, if you win the McConaghy Carbon Fibre Performance Wheel that is the prize in the 2009/10 MMOC.

Melbourne to Stanley (M2S)

Get ready... Get set!

Go Calm?

Eh? What does that all mean then? Well, 'Calm' only had her first ever coat of anti-foul a few months ago and now's she's getting her first ever ocean main sorted, as the crew prepare her for the 2009 Melbourne to Stanley.

JVDS

We finally get a picture of the Third Musketeer. This is Jason Van Der Slot - he's the one smiling and the guy doing the really important job (loading the fridge) is Chris - cheers pal. I'll be back for mine when they're cold...

Recently, 'Calm' took out Line Honours in the inaugural M2G and there were a lot of smiles around then and today. So the crew appear to be all set and ready and on a grey Melbourne morning, we snuck out of the pen to go and put the spreader patches on her new Ocean Mainsail. Just like she'd never had the need for anti-foul, the former Med based Gen3+ TP52 did not come with such a heavy duty rag in her 33 sail arsenal. So to do all the work South this year and finish GA's Hobart business, the new North Sails main is essential. Her sponsors at Audi Centre Brighton are very keen to see her take the challenge up to the other TPs and well-rated IRC Racers, so all the preparatory work is mandatory for a well organised campaign getting the necessary items ready and set for Bass Strait.

XLR8GoldieCalmA

'Calm' gets the big (probably around 270m2) 'Audi Centre Brighton' Bag filled and flies off to pass her fellow SYC boats 'XLR8' and then 'Goldfinger'.

Now as we all get ready for M2S, please remember that it is a Cat 2 race, which the new rules require you to have a PLB and 121.5s will be illegal from next February. The ORCV has arranged for three models of PLB to be on special at Anchor Marine for you, the Members, so go and see them to get the best deal. We'll have a piece on them, here on the ORCV site, shortly. Safety comes first at the ORCV...

OK then - apologies to Mike Williams, who I recently named as Mark in the article 'Remedy'. Sorry - 50% correct. The sherbets must have been doing the listening when I was talking with you at Geelong. Also, thanks must go to Brett Avery from Quantum Sails, who made this little jaunt possible. Well done. Cheers and "GO 'Calm'!"

RoscoMarking

North Sails Melbourne is run by Ross Lloyd, who is marking the places for the spreader patches.

RoscoWaiting BladedOut

It was while Ross was up here that Rob Burns commented that now would be a good time for Slotty, Willow and GA to finalise the pricing with Ross! Ocean Main blades out beautifully when the second slab goes in - 66% now down at the boom and in the lazy jacks! (when they're there...)

WEG AllEyesFwdAndUp

Willow, Elizabeth Williams and GA in the after guard survey the new beast, while it's all eyes forward and up as the second slab goes in...

Cam

Good to see lots of younger people taking up the sport. Cam is doing the next SSSC, which is being held at Sandringham at the end of the month and your last chance to get qualified before Silly Season!!!
