Councillor Island Race
“Unfortunately the Victorian Government has indicated that Yachts based in the Melbourne Metropolitan area will not be able to participate in overnight organised races while stage 3 restrictions remain in place.
As a consequence of this the Councillor Island Race scheduled for Melbourne Cup long weekend will not run. Further details of the summer program will be announced shortly and Where applicable, the Office will arrange a refund of entry fees.

About the Race
The 194 NM Councillor Island Race^, starting at Drapers Reef and finishing near the HMAS Canberra Wreck site, combines the challenges of tide and wind shadow which are a common feature of the race to Grassy with a close inshore rounding and the likelihood of extended (80NM) spinnaker work on either the outward or return legs. The southern rounding mark for the race is in the proximity of Councillor Island which is some 14 NM further south than Cape Wickham. Navigators will have interesting trade offs between wind, tide and distance as they sail up the eastern side of King Island.
^ Note: if Victorian Regulations do not support a scheduled event, the ORCV will, if at all possible, conduct an alternative race or cruise on the scheduled date
