On the nose and bumpy later which will test the constitution of a few sailor who had too much Christmas Day

It looks like the weak change will have moved through Melbourne on boxing day which will leave the fleet in southerly winds that will increase during the day. Some models are predicting an hour or two of northerly so that will give the navigators some interesting options. I have included the Predictwind 8km resolution winds and as you will see the timing between the models are different.

Cock of the Bay Race Line Honours goes to Ambition.

A delighted Chris Dare and his youthful crew on the TP 52 Ambition has taken Line Honours in a light wind Cock of the Bay yacht race followed closely by Tasmania boat Oskana. Dare said, “I wanted a boat that provided a youthful new platform. Something that is fast and Fun.” Despite the light wind conditions, Ambition crossed the line at 16:00:21 for an elapsed time of 4 hours 30 minutes and 21 seconds. Wind comes in for glorious start for Cock of the Bay Ocean Racing Club Race Directors took the hard decision yesterday, in light of the weather forecast to both delay the start by one hour and to move the start line to Sandringham. Thus shortening the course by about four nautical miles.  It was a great call and by 11:30 this morning the breeze had filled in to about 10 knots albeit from the South. Having set a nice wide line to accommodate the 77 entries it was surprising to see so many of the entrants crowd the start boat end of the line. 2018 Cock of the Bay - Notice to Competitors (Start time and Start line amended) Due to very light winds forecast for Boxing Day morning on Port Phillip Bay, Race Management have issued a Notice to Competitors amending the Start time from 10:30am to 11:30am and the Start Line will now be in the vicinity of Sandringham Yacht Club. All I want for Christmas is a little more wind on Boxing Day Skippers and crew in the 2018 Cock of the Bay race will be wishing something extra in the Christmas stockings - a little more wind than is currently forecast for Boxing Day. Current forecast is for 5 to 10 knot Southerly winds around race start time, increasing 10 to 15 knots from same direction in the early afternoon. Race Management are continuing to monitor conditions closely and will consider options including a minor start postponement, relocation of start line and a shortened course. Attention all Sailors! Enter 2018 Cock of the Bay Yacht Race This hugely popular Boxing Day race will start at 10.30am from Port Melbourne with the 34nm course designed to sail past major bayside locations.  Some say there is no better way to work off the excesses of Christmas the day before. Berthing is provided at Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron (BYS) at the conclusion of the race where meals and refreshments are also available. 2016 Cock of the bay - its a wrap

The 2016 Cock of the Bay race is a wrap, with lots of smiles, experiences to share and friends to catch up with at Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron. Forecasts predicted a spinnaker start, alas by the time the race started the Southerly wind had kicked in. By the middle of the race the wind built to 25k, favouring those closer to shore. It was warm and pleasant sailing, despite a little rain and the odd splash. By mark 19 the wind had lightened off and there were several patches of character building 0k.
