Ocean Racing Club of Victoria
Steb Fisher
Training Director, Neville Rose, invited the audience to introduce themselves. Some of the crews are new to ocean sailing and keen to “stick their noses” out into Bass Strait. However, an interesting comment was from experienced sailor, Serge Jook ,who said ” he had competed in all the middle races but not those at either end of the offshore spectrum ie. Latitude and Osaka!”  So, it goes to show that the Latitude concept is not just for beginners. Indeed, many regular competitors in offshore events use the Latitude Series to upskilll their team in areas of helming, crew management, navigating and provisioning.
Mike Coulter and his crew from Dell Era are enjoying  the mentoring skills of ORCV member, Rik Head and have entered the Geelong Passage race for some long distance experience before setting off out the Heads.  Paul Commins and his crew from Dionysos commented it ws an excellent evening and they are enthusiastic about the race in November.Steven Fahey and his crew are eagerly awaitng the delivery of a new boat and hope it will be here on time to compete. In fact, it seemed that everyone who attended is excited to take up the challenge.
