ORCV Heemskirk Consolidated Westcoaster (from 10:00 on 27/12/2011).

108!

The mighty Westcoaster is 40, as we well know. From 1000hrs on 27/12/11, Robin Hewitt is taking Yoko on her 30th consecutive run South down Tasmania's awesome West coast. That makes 70 and we knew that, too....

However, there is also someone who will rack up an incredibly impressive 38 Westcoasters in 2011 and there's your 108!!! The man's name? Well, he is one Richard Bennett and he is The Doyen of ocean racing photography. Richard has been very kind and opened up the vaults of his inumerable collection to allow us to see what he's become so famous around the world for. Accordingly, it is with many thanks to Richard Bennett that we have use of his © images and we very much look forward to seeing more of his treasure trove, in the next little while. If you're in Hobart after the racing, you'll be able to find him at his stall on Constitution Dock, just behind the Mures building...

Wharro's Inglis, Wild Thing, cranked it up on her way to sensational win in 1990. Wet, furious and fast - good work when you get it...
Richard has sold his © image to 46 coutnries over the years... Image courtesy of and © to, Richard Bennett.

Greg Clinnink's, Team Audacious, have been wonderful competitors and suppliers of on board intel.
Here they are running along in the breeze during the 2010 Westcoaster. Image courtesy of and © to, Richard Bennett.

Ultimately, whether the 40th Westcoaster is your first or your tenth, you can look forward to many things. The challenges and unbelievable scenery, which you just won’t comprehend until you get there, but most importantly, a cold case of beer at the Elizabeth Street pier in Hobart.

Heemskirk

Heemskirk are proud sponsors of the ORCV's pair of races heading to Hobart just after Christmas.
Their name has strong links to Tassie with it originating from Abel Tasman's Flagship,
as well as the mountain on the West coast that also shares the name.
