Wicked looses rig overnight.

We are very sad to learn that 'Wicked' dropped her rig in the Banks Strait just after midnight. Thankfully all six souls onboard are fine and they should be just about pulling into the TYC at Beauty Point just about now, 1230hrs on 6/1/10. The hull is also completely fine, so they plan to refuel, check the weather and then steam back to SYC. We hope a replacement stick can be arranged in time for them, so they can partake in the AVW at Geelong at the end of the month. Apparently the stiff breeze and super-short waves the area is famous for meant the boat stopped and the rig kept going. We are really sorry for father and son team, Mike and Mark Welsh, but so glad the rig and cruising sails are the only casualty. 'Wicked' was second overall in the recent RSHYR.

'Wicked' is only about six months old and here she is during the inaugural M2G last Winter.
