ORCV Double-Handed Race- Don't miss out!

The ORCV Double Handed race is fast approaching and the competition is looking challenging!
Adrian Lewis will be out to defend his Line Honours title from the 2014 Double Handed Race, albeit in the comfort of his new boat “Allegro” which won the PHS division in the recent King Island Race, and Cartouche will be hot on his heels.
It should be a close contest between More Noise –Archmbault A31, Remedy –Archbault 32 and Jayhawk- J35 .
The Perpetual Teams Trophy will be awarded to the team of yachts with the lowest total score calculated from AMS, IRC or PHS divisions. Teams may consist of up to four yachts with the best three results to count. So why not organise a Team from your club? Send Team nominations to This email address is being protected from spambots. 2015 Double Handed Race entry is now open.

Entry is now open and race documents are available for the Double Handed Race on Sunday, 3rd of May 2015.

Sailed around a Bay course, this event provides a challenge to those who wish to test themselves in a short-handed sailing format, as well as providing valuable training for those who are contemplating participating in the short-handed division of longer races conducted by the ORCV.

And don't forget, the Teasm Trophy for the event is up for grabs!

2014 Double-Handed Yacht Race - Report

With strong winds overnight and concern about the gust strengths, the start of the 2014 Double-Handed Yacht Race was delayed by 30 minutes as the forecast was for 22 knots from South West by 1000 (plus 40% in the gusts = 30 knots).

Unfortuntely WICKED sustained some minor main sail damage on the way to the start and withdrew. AUDACIOUS and RUNAWAY also radioed in to advise they were withdrawing. JIVE and STREETCAR Did Not Start, which took the 13 entrants down to 8 starters.

With wind SSW to S 20-25 knots, the fleet was sent on Course 2 which starts in Southerly direction to SYC7 from the RBYC Tower Start.

A brisk and showery day with cold air pool storms bringing with them periods of rain and increased wind strength.

It was possible that three laps of the course could have been completed within the time limit but due to the later start, would have been touch and go to get all competitors finished in time. The course was shortened at the only opportunity during after the first 2 legs of the third lap. Timing of the legs indicated further changes in results were unlikely.

Many thanks again to our friends at RBYC for the use of their excellent facilities and Race Management Team Robin Hewitt, Val Hewitt and Neville Rose. Thanks also to Nick McGuigan for the following photos.
