PredictWind has always offered their proprietary PWG and PWC world leading forecasts on their site for comparison. Recently on the Melbourne to Osaka pages, we interviewed Mr Jun Kanda, a competitor in the 2003 and 2007 double handed events. Jun is very active in yachting in his home port of Nagasaki where he runs an Ocean Cruising School and publishes a regular and informative blog. He’s brought to our attention a trip currently under way by a friend of his. Seventy five year old Mr Ikuo Tateo has recently set sail from Japan on a non stop solo voyage to circumnavigate the world via the western route. An Interview with Jun Kanda

In our lead up to the 2018 event and alongside the video interviews we've done, we present our first interview with a past competitor from Japan -  Mr Jun Kanda from Nagasaki.   2003 saw the running of the 6th Melbourne to Osaka double-handed event, with 22 boats registering for the race. The Plan Ahead for Mr Lucky

Mark Hipgrave is an entrant in the 2018 event and like a couple of other skippers has settled on a Sunfast to do the race. NoR Amendment 1 - Competitor cap lifts to 30 Announcing the exciting news that the competitor cap has been lifted to 30.  Amendment 1 to the Notice of Race contains all the details. Along with the lift in the cap, we also announce that the cap will not include Japanese boats. Another important change is the bringing forward of the date for final payment.  This is designed to give entrants on the waiting list time to prepare should an entrant pull out of the race. Multiple Osaka Cup entrant Jon Sayer (Premier Yachts) has just  entered the M2O 2018 for a record 5th time. Following the Brisbane Roadshow a few weeks ago, Jon said that his aim is to design and build a yacht to his own specification (a Sayer 11), to take on the challenge again. He is in the negotiation stage with a shared owner, who has been talked (hopefully) out of his motor boat build and into a sports yacht. 2018 Melbourne to Osaka Race- Decision re Multihull Participation The three organising clubs for the event met on the weekend to discuss preparations for the next race and make some key decisions. One big decision was about whether or not to include multi hulls. After much discussion and consideration a vote was held and a decision made that multi hulls would not be included in the 2018 race but may be included in future races once the Australian ocean racing community becomes more experienced with them.
