2013 Bliss Regatta

BLiSS is fast approaching on the 25th & 26th May 2013 at RBYC.

There has been some great competition around the clubs with women this year, with many women entering each of the club’s races as part of the Port Philliip Womens’ Championship Series(PPWCS).

This year due to popular demand, we have a passage race (Race 4) on the Sunday, which is both the RBYC Associates Cup and Race 4 of the PPWC.
The requirement for BLiSS is a female skipper.
There are fabulous prizes for the series from Promenade Jewellers and Brighton Collaborative including for all girl crews.
Come join in the fun!

Entries for the 23rd Australian Women's Keelboat Regatta (AWKR) are now open!!

On behalf of the AWKR committee I have the pleasure of inviting your female sailors to compete in what has become one of the most respected and highly contested events in Women's Sailing.
Hosted by Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron, St Kilda, Victoria the regatta runs over the Queen’s Birthday weekend of 8th – 10th June, 2013.
Please visit our new website, where you and your female sailors will find the Notice of Race, Race Entry and other important documents and information. We have also attached a poster for you, so you may advertise this event around your club house.
This year AWKR has some exciting new offerings for competitors. These include new courses in the Sailing Instructions, early bird entry fees and a bigger and better off-the-water social calendar. As usual, we will also help interstate sailors and local sailors to find crew members, boats and local accommodation.

Once again in the lead up to the regatta we will be holding our annual Lecture Series over four Wednesdays in May (8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th). Our speakers this year are Jessica Watson (Solo Sailor), Johnny Rodgers (VIS Head Sailing Coach), Mark Tonner-Joyce (State Sailing Coach) and Col Anderson (Sail Maker).
AWKR will once again be supporting the Cancer Council SunSmart Campaign by running raffles at each of the lectures and in the Olympic bar after the races. Once again our sponsors have donated fantastic prizes for this cause.
If there is anything we can do to help your teams to participate or if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Allicia Rae, RMYS Sailing Administrator on 03 9534 0227 or via email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
We look forward to welcoming members from your club and continuing to celebrate women in sailing at this national event.

The story of Australia II and the campaign to win the 1983 America's Cup will feature on ABC TV's Australian Story tonight.

Down By The Sea will run over two weeks, the first episode tonight at 8pm and episode two next Monday 15 April.

If you are a certain age chances are you remember exactly where you were in the early hours of September 27 thirty years ago.

It was the day an Australian yacht ended the longest winning streak in sporting history, grabbing the legendary America's Cup from the New York Yacht Club.

In this thirtieth anniversary year, Australian Story revisits those euphoric and nation defining events.

There are surprising and entertaining new insights from the main players, including then Prime Minister Bob Hawke, Alan Bond and his former wife Eileen and skipper John Bertrand. Also interviewed are Australia II crew member Grant Simmer, London 2012 Olympics gold medallist Tom Slingsby and 2010 America's Cup winning skipper James Spithill.

There is also rarely seen archival footage with cameos from US Presidents Reagan and John F Kennedy and early film of Alan Bond and Ben Lexcen.
