Latest News and announcements from ORCV

  • Have you been to the Port Lincoln Regatta yet ?
  • Have you heard about the race from Adelaide to Port Lincoln ?
  • Have you thought about a race/rally from Melbourne to Adelaide ? (M2A)

ORCV has, and is seeking a response from its members regarding organizing a race/rally from Portsea/Queenscliffe to Adelaide in time to participate in the Adelaide to Port Lincoln race in February 2014.
The race to Port Lincoln starts on 21st Feb. and the Port Lincoln Regatta starts on 24th Feb and finishes on 27th Feb. To achieve a sensible date to get to Adelaide the M2A would need to start soon after the Geelong Festival of Sail.
Proposed formats of the M2A are as follows:
• Handicap race – no stops
• Handicap elapsed time – stops for weather windows/tourism and mandatory finish date
• Cruising rally with mandatory finish date
Berthing at Adelaide would be at CYCSA and stopover berths can be organized for planned/unplanned stops. Accommodation at Port Lincoln needs to be booked as early as possible to ensure a good location.
ORCV would organize the event and manage communications for the race/rally. As you would be aware, an event such as this requires support from entries , and ORCV needs input from interested competitors to allow us to evaluate the support for the event and the resources required by ORCV to responsibly manage the event.
So, if you want to follow the sun West , let us know if you want to do it and provide us with your views as to an acceptable format. Those of us who have been are going again – some for the tourist value, others for the Port Lincoln fun and racing. Contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots. Boat Weighing Day 8th September 2013

The next Yachting Victoria boat weighing day is to be held on Sunday 8 September 2013 at Sandringham Yacht Club The weighing fee will be $140 per boat inc GST. This is the most cost effective means for weighing your boat Weighing is necessary in order to establish IRC and AMS Ratings. All boats must be weighed initially and whenever changes are made that affect the weight. Any boats with provisional AMS ratings must weigh on this occasion in order to retain an AMS rating All boats weighed previously on a travel lift should weigh again, as weights taken on a single point load cell will be required for these measurement rules if changes to the certificate are required in future Time slots will be allocated initially between 0800 and 1400, although it may be necessary to move outside these limits – subject to demand and tides When booking a time slot take into account the tidal depth and your draft. Low tide is tba and high tide is tba This event is run by volunteers from the YV Measurement Rating Office, so your patience and cooperation would be appreciated

To arrange a time, please call Alex at Yachting Victoria on 9597 0066 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Please note the closing date for booking is 25 August 2013

2013 IRC Rating Renewal

The IRC Rating Year for the southern hemisphere countries begins on 1 June and ends on 31 May of the following year.

For IRC races after 31 May 2013 (which includes the upcoming Helly Hansen Winter Series), we cannot process an IRC result unless you have a valid, renewed IRC certificate.

You should by now have received your renewal form. Please ensure you promptly return your IRC renewal to Yachting Australia to get your renewed IRC certificate.
To apply for an IRC certificate for a boat that has not held a rating in the past, please contact either your local IRC Measurer or Yachting Australia. This will involve your boat and inventory being measured (including weighing) by a recognised IRC measurer.
For any amendments made to your IRC certificate in its current rating year where you have made a change to your boat since it was issued, please contact either your IRC measurer (if you require boat inventory to be re-measured) or Yachting Australia with the changes made.
If you have not received your renewal information, please contact Yachting Australia.
