It's All Happening


Entries are building for the Melbourne to Geelong Race. The last race of the Winter Series and a stand alone event in its own right. Come along to shake off the winter cobwebs, enjoy the racing and the party to celebrate the event.

Portland here we come. ORCV members Tom and Leanne Doherty are the first to enter this new race on the calendar. Tom and Leanne live in Portland and their yacht, Ingenue has pride of place in the Marina. A qualifier for the East and Westcoast races at Christmas, enter now.

Latitude Series is on again. Ocean racing, bay passage race and informative seminars. A perfect opportunity to “stick your nose out the Heads”. Need assistance with boat and crew preparation? Adelaide. Expressions of interest are invited for this proposed race to Adelaide prior to the Port Lincoln Regatta. To make this a viable event, we need to know if you are interested, so add you name to the list now.

Vanautu. Following a successful launch of this long distance event in 2014, entry is now open for the Race and Rally and registration for the seminars is available.

It was great to see members and supporters of the ORCV brave the cold weather to attend the Helly Hansen VIP night on Monday evening.

Alex and Matt were on hand to showcase the latest range of Sailing Gear from Helly Hansen that will be available in stores from October and audience members were offered a 30% discount on the evening! So , we will wait and see who has the newest gear in the next instalment of the HH Media Competition during Winter Series racing this Sunday 25th August 2013!

No-not store models! Our hardworking General Committee kitted out in their Helly Hansen jackets.

Ray Shaw presented the latest changes to the YA special Regulations for Hull Construction standards and Stability requirements for Cat 1 and 2 racing. Remember you can no longer use your IRC SSS Base value to comply, so make some early preparations if you need organise your proof of Stability before the first offshore race of the season to Portland in November.

Marissa Chalkley presented information related to the National Equipment Auditors Scheme that has been established by YA. All ORCV Safety Auditors will be accredited under this scheme on completion of attending the training course. One course has successfully been conducted at SYC earlier this year.
Paul Buchholz spoke of the new changes to the Special Regulations for racing and highlighted areas of concern that Auditors will be looking to inspect at your next audit. So make sure you are familiar with the Audit forms and book your inspection early.

2013 Ocean Racer of the Year

Call for Nominations.

The Ocean Racer of the Year Perpetual Trophy was presented by Ron White and Family, of Shenandoah 11 fame, for the first time in 2002.

The trophy was implemented to recognise those qualities particular to ocean racing as distinct from other yachting activities.

Such qualities might include, but are not limited to, the nominee’s knowledge and application to Ocean Racing of:
Boat Handling/Sea State
Crew maintenance
Sail Management

Nominations are requested for this past season and should be submitted to the ORCV with supporting reasons by Friday 6th September 2013.
