Algy Rose, skippered by Nigel Rose is a Swarbrick S111. Nigel found the boat in Sydney, previously known as “If Only” and trucked it down to Melbourne from Middle Harbour and renamed it Algy Rose in honour of his Grandfather’s mascot. Many of you will be familiar with Sir Alec Rose’s journeys in “Lively Lady”. Nigel tells us Algy Rose is a great all round family cruiser and racer despite its age.

Dell Era is a Carter 33 based at Sandringham. Owner Mike Coulter has an enthusiastic crew who are working hard to get the boat performing to something closer to her former glory! Mike has taken the opportunity to have experienced ORCV Mentor, Rik Head, assist the crew in the preparation for the event. Rik will be aboard for their first jaunt out the Heads.

Dionysos, skippered by Paul Commins, is a Beneteau Oceanis 43. The crew are keen and have been regular attendees at the Latitude Seminar Series.

Stuart Lyons has a new boat Jake, J111, in his fleet and is no doubt keen to see how she performs in the ocean. Stuart has been a regular competitor in ORCV events in his previous boat, Spindrift.

Saltair was first new Elan 410 in Australia, launched in June 2011. Bernard and Sarah Allard have raced extensively on Port Phillip and cruised to Westernport. They have their sights set on competing in the Double-Handed division to Launceston this Christmas.

Other regulars amongst the fleet include Escapade, Harmony, Kiss Goodbye to MS, Magazan 53, Spirit of Freya, Streetcar, the Secretary and Yoko. Many of these boats take the opportunity to give new crew the experience of Bass Strait and sometimes the owners relinquish their araldite grip and pass over the helm to a novice skipper.

Fair winds to all those sailing in the race. No doubt we will hear the tall tales around the bar at Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron on Saturday evening!
