The 2016 Cock of the Bay race is a wrap, with lots of smiles, experiences to share and friends to catch up with at Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron.

Forecasts predicted a spinnaker start, alas by the time the race started the Southerly wind had kicked in. By the middle of the race the wind built to 25k, favouring those closer to shore. It was warm and pleasant sailing, despite a little rain and the odd splash. By mark 19 the wind had lightened off and there were several patches of character building 0k. Towards the end of the race for the mid to back of the fleet, the wind built back to 5-10k allowing a cracked sheets reach to the finish with Code 0 and/or spinnakers for some.

From the Race Director’s view (a great view by the way thanks to the Blairgowrie Tower), it was heartbreaking to see the wind die out for the smaller boats, meaning a favoured result for the faster boats generally and a slow finish for those who persevered.

Well done to all finishers, results (subject to protest) have been posted.
